Expertly managed to ensure seamless and unforgettable events.

Our craft

The Melody is managed by Escape the Routine, a full-service event production company based in San Francisco. With over a decade of experience in the events industry, ETR knows what it takes to create unforgettable experiences.

We've meticulously designed every aspect of the space to make hosting your perfect event both effortless and enjoyable. Our approach includes investing in turnkey features like customizable lighting, a premier sound system, and quality furniture, reducing the need for additional rentals.

A fresh approach to history

One of our key insights from our time producing events is that much of the magic of an event begins with the venue itself. The character and inspiration for an event often stem from the space's unique features.

As modern experience creators, we particularly cherish working in historical venues rich with artistic and thoughtful craftsmanship from the past. The Melody exemplifies this perfectly—every inch of the space is a masterpiece.

Sustainability

At ETR, sustainability is a core principle of our event production philosophy. We believe that rejuvenating underused spaces is a powerful way to promote environmental responsibility.

Instead of consuming extensive resources to create new venues, we concentrate on maximizing the potential of existing spaces. These spaces are time capsules of history, deserving of appreciation and admiration.

Bringing people together since 1880.

The Melody offers authentic old-world charm, where modern amenities enhance a rich history of thoughtful gatherings.

Originally built as Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, our doors were first opened in 1880. The 1906 earthquake and ensuing fire almost entirely destroyed the building's first iteration, with a rebuilt church re-opening in 1912.
With a new exterior designed in the Mission Revival style, the interior was decorated with frescoes in Renaissance and Baroque style by Luigi Brusatori, an Italian master painter.

These exquisite architectural details remain preserved today in their original condition.
The congregation thrived through the mid-century, but by the 1990's demographic shifts brought the majority of the church's parishoners to the Mission District, and the church was closed.

After decades of vacancy, an investment firm bought the property in 2016 with the intention of developing a ‘startup temple’. Renowned architecture firm Balbek Bureau completed $10M of major renovations, allowing the building to reopen in 2018 as ‘906 World Cultural Center’.

The 906 World project ended in 2020, and the building is under new ownership as of 2024.
We're now managed by accomplished San Francisco event producer Escape the Routine. We aim to bring a fresh and modern approach to the space, while maintaining a deep respect for the building's rich history.
